"REDUCTION DEPENDS ON CURTAILMENT OR EXPANSION"

HARDING CLAIMS GOVERNMENT RECONSTRUCTION 'BIGGEST IN HISTORY'

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On December 4, 1922, President Warren G. Harding, speaking "frankly" to the Congress of the United States Congress on the budget, expressed the belief that his administration's financial reconstruction over the past two years is "the biggest in history."

The President also stated that "any reduction in government spending and in taxes...would depend...on whether there (will) be a curtailment or expansion of federal aid in...research, improvement and development."

JFK+50 NOTE

According to Study Smarter, a "mild recession" followed the world war with the Harding administration "looking to balance the federal budget" which was "bloated by defense spending."
