"NEW EXPERIMENT: RUN GOVERNMENT WITHOUT CONGRESS"

LEGISLATORS TO TAKE MUCH NEEDED NINE MONTH VACATION

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On February 4, 1923, the Sunday Star reports that the Congress of the United States, having "been on the job almost continuously for the last eight years" is "going away" in four weeks time.

Robert T. Smalls writes...

"Washington is about to try a new experiment--that of running the government without Congress."

Small says that business wants a rest from national legislation activities and is going to get it.

President Warren G. Harding plans to take advantage of the congressional recess by making trips to Florida and Alaska.

Smalls writes...

"Washington officialdom views the coming vacation with a feeling akin to equanimity."
