U.S. & BRITAIN TO PARTICIPATE IN NAVAL DEMONSTRATION IN CHINA
Peking, China (JFK+50) On July 7, 1923, Junius B. Wood reports in The Evening Star that Rear Admiral Edwin A. Anderson, Jr.* has arrived with the American Asiatic Fleet in Peking in conjunction with an announcement from London that Great Britain and the United States will participate in a joint naval demonstration off the coast of China.
According to Mr. Wood, the Chinese cabinet has been thrown "into a flutter of apprehension" over these developments. The Japanese government is withholding approval at this time.
*Edwin Alexander Anderson, Jr. (1860-1933) was born in Wilmington, NC & served in the US Navy in the Spanish-American War, commanded the battleship New Hampshire in Vera Cruz, 1914 & served in WWI. EAA was awarded the Medal of Honor.
