"CEREMONY DESCRIBED AS 'SIMPLE'"

ATTORNEY GENERAL FORMALLY PRESENTED TO SUPREME COURT

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On April 21, 1924, "the new Attorney General, Harlan F. Stone*, was formally presented to the Supreme Court."

The AG was admitted to practice law before the court in 1920.  The Evening Star describes today's ceremony as "simple."

Mr. Stone was introduced by Solicitor General James M. Beck and "a few words of welcome" were given by Chief Justice William Howard Taft.

*Harlan Fiske Stone (1872-1946) was born in Chesterfield, New Hampshire & graduated from Amherst College, 1894.  HFS was Dean of Columbia Law School before becoming AG 1924-1925.  He served as Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court 1925-1941 & Chief Justice 1941-1946.
