"MIDDLE WEST NEEDS TO BE HOME OF NEXT VP NOMINEE"

DAWES SUGGESTED AS COOLIDGE RUNNING MATE IN 1924

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On April 20, 1924, N.O. Messenger, writing in the Sunday Star, suggests "the real motive" behind talk in Republican party circles suggesting Charles G. Dawes* be made temporary chairman of the Republican National Convention of 1924 is in "the hope...to get him" on the ticket as vice-presidential nominee.

Party leaders, Mr. Messenger writes, believe the middle-west needs to be the home of the next Republican vice-presidential nominee.

*Charles Gates Dawes (1865-1951) was born in Marietta, Ohio & attended University of Cincinnati & UC College of Law.  He won the Nobel Prize for his work on WWI reparations & served as VPOTUS 1925-1929.  CGD was US ambassador to UK 1929-1931.
