"SEEKS BEST VETERINARY SURGEONS OF MIDDLE WEST"

CONCERT PIANIST PADEREWSKI SEEKS TREATMENT FOR HIS SICK PEKINGESE

Chicago, Illinois (JFK+50) On April 17, 1924, The Evening Star reports that yesterday Ignacy Jan Paderewski*, former Polish premier and concert pianist, rushed here to Chicago "to obtain the services of the best veterinary surgeons of the middle west."

Mr. Paderewski's pet Pekingese, named 'Pingy', had contracted a cold which worsened and forced the cancellation of two planned concerts.

Four leading veterinarians met the train and diagnosed "rhinitis complicated by gastritis**."  It will be necessary for the little dog to undergo rest and long-term treatment along with "special attention to diet."

JFK+50 NOTE

The Pekingese is a breed of toy dog which originated in China.  They are confident dogs that develop close bonds to humans.  We had a Pekingese named 'Picabo' who met that description perfectly.

*Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860-1941) was born in Russia & studied music at the conservatory in Strasbourg.  IJP became a well-known concert pianist & composer.  He served as prime minister of Poland in 1919.

**rhinitis is a reaction causing nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing & itching.  gastritis is an inflamation of the stomach lining.
