"USA NO LONGER ASYLUM OF WORLD'S OPPRESSED"

REP. JOHNSON ADDRESSES D.A.R. ON IMMIGRATION ACT

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On April 18, 1924, Representative Albert Johnson, chairman of the House immigration committee, spoke to the Continental Congress of the Daughters of the American Revolution* in Memorial Continental Hal here in the Nation's Capital.

The congressman described the Immigration Act of 1924, which has been passed by both houses of Congress, as "America's second Declaration of Independence."

The DAR is considering endorsement of this legislation and invited Mr. Johnson to give his views on the bill.  Mr. Johnson said that the law...

"ends forever the idea that (the United States) is the asylum of the oppressed of the world."
