"NOTHING SHORT OF AN EARTHQUAKE WOULD KEEP ME AWAY"

MEDAL OF HONOR WINNER ARRIVES IN CAPITAL FOR INAUGURATION

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On February 27, 1925, Sergeant Michael A. Donaldson*, "world war hero and holder of a Congressional Medal of Honor" arrived here in the Nation's Capital from New York for the inauguration.

The Sergeant told his friends...

"Nothing short of an earthquake would keep me from seeing President (Calvin) Coolidge take the oath of office."

Sgt. Donaldson was Mr. Coolidge's personal escort at the funeral of the late President Warren G. Harding.

In Sgt. York fashion, Sgt. Donaldson "rounded up 78 German soldiers" in France and "drove his unwilling prisoners to the rear."

*Sgt Michael Aloyisus Donaldson, Company I, 165th Infantry, 42nd Division risked his own life in rescue of his wounded comrades in France during WWI.  MAD brought a total of six men to safety.  The action date was October 14, 1918.
