BOY, LYING HELPLESS IN BED, HEARS PARENTS PLANNING HIS FUNERAL
Madisonville, Kentucky* (JFK+50) On March 9, 1925, nine year old Roscoe Qualls "is recovering after hours of near distraction at the thought of being buried alive."
The youth fell while skating and was later "lying helpless in his bed when he heard his parents planning his funeral."
Doctors had determined Roscoe had a brain concussion and was kept alive for several days on liquid food. After the doctors left, according to the Associated Press report, the boy "apparently died."
When one doctor returned later, he found the boy "still breathing" and able to sit up in bed.
*Madisonville is located in Hopkins County, Kentucky's western coal fields. Founded in 1807 & named for Secretary of State James Madison, is the home of Madisonville Community College.
