ADMIRAL DEWEYS REMAINS MOVED FROM ARLINGTON TO NATIONAL CATHEDRAL
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On March 28, 1925, The Evening Star reports that the remains of Admiral George Dewey*, Spanish-American War hero, was removed from Arlington National Cemetery to the National Cathedral this afternoon.
The remains were transported by caisson and moved through the streets of Washington to be placed near the remains of Woodrow Wilson at the Cathedral.
The move was requested by Mrs. Dewey and son George G. Dewey.
*George Dewey (1837-1917) was born in Montpelier, Vermont & became the only person to attain the rank of Admiral of the Navy. GD is best known for his victory at Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War. He was so successful, a popular slogan of the day was 'Let George Do It."
