WIFE OF AMERICAN AUTHOR ENTERS SPANISH BULL RING
Madrid, Spain (JFK+50) On June 29, 1925, Associated Press reports that Mrs. Ruth Wightman Morris*, wife of the American pulp novel author Gouverneur Morris**, "entered the ring against a small bull during a recent visit to the ranch of the Duke of Tovar."
While Mrs. Morris did not kill the bull, her courage "won the plaudits of a distinguished audience." AP says that while in the ring, Mrs. Morris wore the "regulation dress" of an Andalusian*** bull fighter.
*Ruth Wightman Morris (1897-1963) was born in Jamestown, NY & became a screenwriter & race car driver. RWM had a passion for flying & was one of the 1st women to earn a pilot's license. She was the 2nd wife of Gouverneur Morris.
**Gouverneur Morris (1876-1953) was born in New York City & educated at Yale University. GM was author of pulp novels & short stories. He served as director of the Monterey Bank until his retirement.
