PRESIDENT MCKINLEY DIES IN BUFFALO


Buffalo, New York (JFK+50) William McKinley, 25th President of the United States, died today here in Buffalo, New York from the wounds he suffered by the hands of an assassin just 8 days ago.


The President was in Buffalo attending the Pan American Exposition where he made a speech & then was greeting the public.


The assassin, Leon Czolgosz, fired two shots at close range.


The President was 58 years old. 


His last words were: "It is God's way.  His will be done, not ours."


President William McKinley will be buried at West Lawn Cemetery in Canton, Ohio.

THEODORE ROOSEVELT TAKES OATH 


Buffalo, New York (JFK+50) Theodore Roosevelt was sworn into office today as the 26th President of the United States.

Mr. Roosevelt becomes the youngest U.S. President at age 42*


The ceremony took place at the home of Ansley Wilcox here in Buffalo.


The oath was administered by Judge John R. Hazel at 3:31 this afternoon.**


*TR remains to this day the youngest President in our history.  JFK, at age 43, is the youngest "elected" President.


**Mr. Wilcox said "No Bible was used (for the swearing-in ceremony) but Mr. Roosevelt was sworn in with uplifted hand."


Thus, TR is the only President to this day to take the oath of office without using a Bible.

SOVIET PROBE REACHES THE MOON 



Moscow, USSR (JFK+50) The Soviet government announced today that one of their space probes has crashed onto the surface of the moon.


This will be the 1st man-made object from earth to reach the moon.*


*This adds fuel to the fire for JFK's campaign of 1960 in which he says that the US is #2 in the space race

PRINCESS GRACE DIES FROM INJURIES


Monte Carlo, Monaco (JFK+50) Princess Grace of Monaco died today at the age of 52 from injuries she suffered in an automobile accident here in Monte Carlo.


The former Grace Kelly, Hollywood actress, lost control of the automobile she was driving on a mountain road.


Her car plunged off the road.  Her 17 year old daughter, Stephanie, survived the accident.


Princess Grace, born in Philadelphia in 1929, gave up her acting career to marry Prince Rainier III of Monaco.*


*Princess Grace suffered a stroke which caused her to lose control.

GENERAL SCOTT TAKES MEXICO CITY


Mexico City, Mexico (JFK+50) General Winfield Scott today was escorted into the Mexican capital after his troops captured the city & raised the stars & stripes over the Halls of Montezuma.


The General was wearing his full dress uniform & was welcomed by patriotic music.
