JFK was known for enjoying the last day of the year in Palm Beach as well. Mr. Kennedy attended an event at the Palm Beach Country Club with his press secretary, Pierre Salinger, on December 31, 1961. Ronald Reagan preferred Palm Springs, California.
Barack Obama's New Year's Eves were in Hawaii while LBJ, on December 31, 1964, attended a reception at the University of Texas in Austin followed by a press party at the Driskill Hotel. Richard Nixon once hosted the White House press corps for "cocktails and conversation."
Harry Truman held a New Year's Eve party on the presidential yacht 'Williamsburg' while FDR & Mrs. Roosevelt, on December 31, 1938, screened the movie 'Pygmalion'* at the White House.
*Pygmalion was a 1938 film starring Leslie Howard & Wendy Hiller. It won an Academy Award for the best screenplay.
