"I SHALL IN ALL PROBABILITY GET THE IRON CROSS"

HARRY TRUMAN WRITES BESS ON YEAR'S LAST DAY

Camp La Baholle, near Verdun (JFK+50) On December 31, 1918, Captain Harry S Truman wrote a letter to Bess Wallace...

"You see I am ending the year properly by writing you a letter on the last day.  I am going to Verdun tomorrow or next day and shall in all probability get the iron cross."

Truman wrote that on New Year's Day 1919, a few boxing bouts and wresting matches would be held.

The Captain added...

"Maybe a basketball game or two."
