SQUEAKY FROMME WAS FULL OF HATE & VIOLENCE

PRESIDENT FORD ESCAPES ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

Sacramento (JFK+50) On September 5, 1975, President Gerald R. Ford, 38th President of the United States, survived an attempt on his life by Charles Manson follower, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme*.

Ms. Fromme, who was dressed in a red robe and armed with a Colt 45 semi-automatic pistol, was disarmed by a Secret Service agent before she could fire a shot.  Although her pistol had 4 rounds of ammunition, there was no bullet in the chamber at the time she pointed it at the President.

Squeaky Fromme was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.  An attorney recommended severe punishment for Fromme because she, in his view, was "full of hate and violence."

Fromme was paroled at the age of 60 and released from the Federal Medical Center Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas on August 14, 2009.  After her release, Ms. Fromme moved to Marcy, New York.

*Lynette Alice "Squeaky" Fromme was born in Santa Monica, CA on Oct. 22, 1948.  Her father was an aeronautical engineer.  She graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1966 and the following year met and became a follower of Charles Manson.
