CUBS PRESIDENT ADMITS SWEEPING INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY ON GAME FIX
Chicago, Illinois (JFK+50) On September 4, 1920, a "new bombshell" in the baseball gambling scandal "exploded" when William Veick, president of the Chicago Cubs, admitted that a "sweeping investigation was underway of charges that the Cubs had been fixed to let Philadelphia win" a recent game.
The Cubs ownership admitted they had been "tipped off" that some of their players had agreed to "throw the game."
