"AMERICA FIRST HAS A MEANING, PROFOUND & EVERLASTING"

SENATOR HARDING SAYS WE MUST UNITE UNDER THE SLOGAN 'AMERICA FIRST'

Marion, Ohio (JFK+50) On September 3, 1920, Republican presidential candidate Warren G. Harding*, speaking at his home here in Marion, said...

"When the responsibility for leadership was placed upon me I said to myself that we must all unite under the slogan 'America first.'

America must maintain her own independence and shall be first in fulfilling her obligation to the world, but...at home any special interest, any class, any group...that has arranged itself against the interests of all must learn that at home, as well as abroad, America first has a meaning, profound and, with God's aid, everlasting."

*Warren Gamaliel Harding (1865-1923) was the 29th POTUS serving 1921-1923. He was one of the most popular presidents in history but after his unexpected death in office, a number of scandals surfaced, the most infamous being Teapot Dome, which largely discredited his presidency.
