"THE NEXT PRESIDENT MUST ASSERT LEADERSHIP ON 3 FRONTS"

CAN THE WORLD EXIST HALF SLAVE & HALF FREE?

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On September 20, 1960, Senator John F. Kennedy spoke at the Sheraton Park Hotel* here in the Nation's Capital.

The Democratic presidential nominee said...

"One hundred years ago Abraham Lincoln put the issue to the country as to whether the country could exist half slave and half free.  Today...the great question is...Can the world exist half slave and half free?  It is the most solemn question that this nation or the world has ever faced."

JFK continued...

"Extraordinary efforts are called for by every American who knows the value of freedom.  I think the next President...must assert leadership on three fronts..."

Senator Kennedy called for making the military power of the United States the greatest in the world, requesting the assistance of our allies in helping the underdeveloped nations of the world, and addressing the issue of poverty.

At the conclusion of his remarks, the Senator was given a standing ovation by the audience.
