"MR. WILSON SHOULD RESIGN AT ONCE"

BRYAN SAYS PRESIDENT COULD NOT GET ALONG WITH REPUBLICANS OR DEMOCRATS

Chicago, Illinois (JFK+50) On November 4, 1920, William Jennings Bryan* issued a statement calling on President Woodrow Wilson to resign.  Mr. Bryan wrote...

"Mr. Wilson should resign at once."

Bryan believed that the resignation was justified by the results of the Election of 1920.

He recommended President-elect Warren G. Harding be appointed Secretary of State and then assume the presidency with the resignation of Vice President Marshall.

Bryan also wrote...

"The President attempted to drive out of public life every Democrat who dared to differ from him (and) he alienated all Republican support and invited partisan opposition just before the election of 1918.  He refused to deal with the Senate as a co-ordinate branch of government."
