"I AM TRYING TO FIND WHAT MIDDLE GROUND THERE IS"

PRESIDENT-ELECT TO SEEK 'MIDDLE GROUND'

Marion, Ohio (JFK+50) On December 11, 1920, President-elect Warren G. Harding announced here in Marion that he would consult "more than 100 prominent American men...in shaping...domestic and international policies..."

Mr. Harding said his intent was to "obtain all shades of opinion to aid...in shaping a...plan of action after March 4*."

The Washington Herald reported on December 12 that the President-elect would be meeting with Herbert Hoover, Elihu Root, Calvin Coolidge, William Jennings Bryan and William Howard Taft over the next two weeks.

Mr. Harding said...

"I am trying to find what middle ground there is on which we can count in uniting American public opinion as to the future."

*March 4 was the date of the presidential inauguration in 1921.
