"HARDING SAYS HE'S RECOGNIZED THE SOLID SOUTH"

TENNESSEE'S FOWLER NOT TO BE IN CABINET

Marion, Ohio (JFK+50) On January 10, 1921, President-elect Warren G. Harding told Tennessee visitors "urging the appointment of James A. Fowler*...as Attorney General" that A.T. Hert of Kentucky would "certainly be in his cabinet."

Harding said he already recognized the "Solid South" by his decision to appoint Mr Hert who was under consideration for Secretary of War or Secretary of the Navy.

The New York Tribune of January 11, 1921 states...

"There is now very little ground for hoping that anyone from the territory south of the Ohio and Potomac Rivers will be in the cabinet except Mr. Hert."
