"IT HAS NOT BEEN ONE OF AMERICA'S BETTER DAYS"

U.S. CAPITOL UNDER SIEGE, BUT NOT THE FIRST TIME

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) Supporters of President Donald J. Trump, attending a rally today marched down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol where they stormed through doors and windows overwhelming the Capitol Police.

Members of the Congress, including the Vice-President, who were in the process of counting the votes of the Electoral College, were whisked to safety.  One of the Trump supporters, a woman, was killed.

While this event, televised live around the world, shocked everyone, it was not the first time the Capitol has been breached.

On November 7, 1983, the Armed Resistance Unit bombing did $250,000 in damages at the Capitol.  On March 1, 1971, a bombing in protest of American presence in Laos resulted in $300,000 in damages.

On March 1, 1954, armed Puerto Rican nationalists fired guns from the gallery injuring five congressmen.

Tonight, the Congress is picking up where they left off this afternoon and are expecting to complete the counting of the Electoral votes of the 2020 presidential election.  This is welcome news, but it has not been one of America's better days.
