"R.B. CREAGER OF BROWNSVILLE"

TEXAS NOTABLE CALLS AT THE WHITE HOUSE

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On March 10, 1921, R.B. Creager*, a prominent lawyer from Brownsville, Texas, was "among the callers at the White House."

In December 1923, after the death of his friend President Warren G. Harding, Mr. Creager was offered the appointment of Ambassador to Mexico by President Calvin Coolidge.

Mr. Creager, head of the Republican party in Texas at the time, turned down the offer because he was unwilling to give up his position as chairman.

*Rentfro Banton Creager (1877-1950) was born in Waco, TX & earned his LLB at the University of Texas, 1900.  He served as US Collector of Customs, Brownsville, TX 1909-1913. RBC was one of the leaders of an unsuccessful movement in 1924 to put an anti-KKK plank in the Republican platform.
