REAGAN SAYS NUCLEAR FREEZE WOULD BE A FRAUD
Orlando, Florida (JFK+50) On March 8, 1983, President Ronald Wilson Reagan addressed the National Association of Evangelicals meeting here in Orlando. The President responded to a Soviet-backed proposal to establish a nuclear freeze which would stop deployment of United States missiles in Europe.
The President said...
"A freeze would be a very dangerous fraud...giving the illusion of peace."
Mr. Reagan continued...
"Let us be aware they are the focus of evil in the modern world."*
*This was the second time in his presidency that Reagan referred to the Soviets as "evil." The first was in 1982 in a speech before the British House of Commons. The administration's "aggressive" stance toward the USSR became known as "The Reagan Doctrine."
