"LUCKY LANDS IN PARIS SAFE"

LINDBERGH COMPLETES 1ST SOLO FLIGHT ACROSS ATLANTIC

Paris, France (JFK+50) On May 21, 1927, American aviator Charles A. Lindbergh* landed safely here in Paris after a 33.5 hour flight from New York.  "Lucky Lindy" completed the first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean and the first non-stop flight from New York to Paris.

The 25 year old pilot was greeted by 150,000 Parisians at Le Bourget Field.  Lindbergh would later be awarded the Medal of Honor.

*Charles Augustus Lindbergh (1902-1974) was born in Detroit, Michigan & studied at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  CAL served in the US Army Air Corps Reserves 1925-1941 & 1954-1974.  

Although supporting the America First movement & opposing U.S. entry into WWII, he flew 50 missions in the Pacific theater.  In addition to the Medal of Honor, CAL received the Distinguished Flying Cross & Congressional Gold Medal.
