"PAN AM UNION BUILDING TO BE OFFICIAL SITE"

ARMAMENT CONFERENCE DETAILS SETTLED

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 27, 1921, the Evening Star reported that "various details of the coming armament conference have been settled."

According to the Star, the Pan American Union Building* is to be the official site of the conference while the Navy Building will provide additional space for the use of members.

It is further disclosed that English and French will be the official languages at the conference and that the United States government will provide quarters for the meetings.

It is estimated that between 400 and 500 members will attend the disarmament conference.  

In providing use of the Pan Am Union building, representatives  said the conference provided the opportunity to achieve "an aspiration common to all the republics of the American continent."

*Pan American Union Building is located at 17th Street NW in Washington, D.C.  It is the HQ of the Organization of American States.

Dedicated in 1919, the PAUB was closely guarded by US Marines with fixed bayonets during the Washington Naval Conference, 1921-22.
