Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) In a news story written a century ago, the case for pardon of imprisoned socialist leader Eugene V. Debs* could be "taken up with President (Warren G.) Harding by Attorney General (Harry M.) Daugherty."

The New York Tribune reports while an exhaustive study into the history of the socialist's case had been conducted, "final recommendations on a pardon have not been completed."

*Eugene Victor Debs (1855-1926) was born in Terre Haute, Indiana & became an American socialist, political activist, trade unionist & founding member of the International Workers of the World.

EVD was a 5x candidate for POTUS & served in the Indiana House of Representatives 1885-1887.  He was convicted for violation of the Sedition Act & sentenced to a 10 year prison term.  The term was commuted in Dec 1921 by President Harding.
