"TO CO-OPERATE WITH LABS, HOSPITALS IN BOSTON"

ROCKEFELLER FUNDS A NEW SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH

Boston, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On August 21, 1921, the Rockefeller Foundation* announced a gift of $1,785,000 to Harvard University to be used to reorganize and extend..."existing courses for the training of public health officers and enlarging...facilities for the study of preventative and tropical medicine and industrial hygiene."

The New York Tribune reports that the money provided by the foundation will fund "a new school of Public Health** providing research opportunities."

The Tribune states...

"The school will...co-operate with laboratories, hospitals and public health agencies in Boston."

*The Rockefeller Foundation was established in New York City by the family of John D. Rockefeller on May 14, 1913.  Its 1st grant was to the American Red Cross.  The RF developed a vaccine to combat yellow fever & catalyzed the Green Revolution.

**The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (1913-present) is located in Boston, MA & has 984 students, 422 doctoral candidates.
