HARDING BLAMES SHIP BOARD PROBLEMS ON WILSON
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 20, 1921, President Warren G. Harding sent a letter to the chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Wesley L. Jones*, saying that the Ship Board matter was "wholly an inheritance from the previous administration."
The President classified the situation as fraught with "unspeakable losses and intolerable wastes" under the direction of President Woodrow Wilson.
Mr. Harding added, however, that the losses could be "brought to a minimum. He wrote...
"Our great problem is curing the situation."
