PRESIDENT HARDING RESOLVED WARFARE SHOULD END
Lancaster, New Hampshire (JFK+50) On August 4, 1921, President Warren G. Harding said he believes the world is "about to expurgate warfare from the processes of civilization."
The President spoke "from the tonneau* of an automobile in the public green" here in Lancaster. Mr. Harding spoke "with enthusiasm of the potentialities" of the approaching peace conference.
President Harding said...
"We of this generation have witnessed the most gigantic conflict of all time. We of America and all the world are resolved today that warfare ought to come to an end."
*tonneau (cover) the part of an automobile, typically an open car, occupied by the back seat.
