"ADVISED BY POLICE TO GET OUT OF THE LIMELIGHT"

KKK GRAND GOBLIN SCARED BY THREATENING LETTER

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On September 29, 1921, Harry B. Terrell, Grand Goblin of the D.C. Klan, "appealed to Police Inspector Clifford L. Grant for protection" after receiving a threatening letter.

The letter stated...

"Don't worry.  We will see you soon and will let you know as this is going to be a fight to the finish."

The Inspector told Terrell that by advertising himself as Klan Chief he "encourages such threats" and so advised the Grand Goblin "to get out of the limelight."

JFK+50 NOTE

The KKK grew to 4 million members nationwide by 1925.  On Aug 8 of that year the largest Klan march in the history of the city took place down Pennsylvania Ave in the Nation's Capital.  There were an estimated 30,000 marchers, dressed in robes, taking 3.5 hours to pass by. According to reports, many were unmasked.
