"EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE, SORROW & REVERENCE"

WE OBSERVE GOLD STAR MOTHER'S DAY

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) Today, September 26, 2021, the last Sunday of the month, we observe "Gold Star Mother's Day*" here in the United States.

The President calls on Americans to display the Flag of the United States and to publicly express their "love, sorrow and reverence" toward Gold Star mothers and their families.

The name originated with the display of flags in the windows of homes which had family members in military service.  A flag with a BLUE STAR represented a family member in active service while a GOLD STAR represented a family member who had given their life in the service of their country.

*Gold Star Mother's Association was incorporated in 1929 & Gold Star Mother's Day was established by Congress on June 23, 1936.  The GSMA organizes events nationwide relating to the day.
