"PEACE TREATIES NOT MATTERS FOR PARTY ACTION"

DEMOCRATIC SENATORS FREE TO FOLLOW OWN JUDGMENT ON TREATY RATIFICATION VOTE

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On September 27, 1921, the Evening Star reported Democratic senators had decided that peace treaties negotiated with Germany, Austria and Hungary "were not matters for party action."

In other words, senators of the party are free to "follow their own judgment" on the ratification vote.

The Star states, however, that sentiment in the Democratic Party presently standing against ratification is growing.

Highly placed party officials "denied a rumor" that former President Woodrow Wilson "was organizing the opposition to ratification of the Harding Treaty."
