"APPLAUDED BY HUNDREDS OF ONLOOKERS"

PERSHING IS THE TOAST OF LONDON

London (JFK+50) At 7 p.m. on October 16, 1921, General John J. Pershing arrived at Victoria Station here in London.  He was greeted by Sir Laming Worthington-Evans*, Secretary of War.

The General has come here to take part in ceremonies to honor Great Britain's unknown soldier.  

The New York Tribune reports that General Pershing was applauded by "hundreds of onlookers" upon his arrival.

*Sir Laming Worthington-Evans (1868-1931)  served in WWI & as Secretary of War, 1924-1929. LWE became the Baronet of Colchester in 1916.
