RAILROAD STRIKE IMPACTING 42 STATES TO BEGIN OCT 30
Chicago, Illinois (JFK+50) On October 15, 1921 "nearly 70,000 American railroad men...were ordered to initiate a strike" beginning on October 30, 1921.
The New York Tribune reports that with other unions adding to the mix, the total would be "about two million."
It is estimated that 73,000 miles of track in 42 states would be impacted by the railroad strike.
W.G. Lee, president of The Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen*, predicted the strike "would be the greatest in history."
*The Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen was founded in 1833 to negotiate contracts with management & to provide insurance for its members. HQ in Cleveland, Ohio, the BRT dissolved in 1969.
