ITALIAN GENERAL ADOPTED INTO CROW NATION
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On November 16, 1921, Armando Diaz*, commander-in-chief of the Italian armies, was adopted into the Crow nation in a "fascinating ceremony" held at the Willard Hotel here in the Nation's Capital.
Diaz, who admired the American Indians as a boy, was given the name "A-cheea-Ohuse" which means Plenty Coups, the same name as the Crow chief who conducted the ceremony.
In attendance were notable dignitaries including Charles H. Burke**, U. S. Indian Commissioner.
A war bonnet was placed on General Diaz's head and he was given a tomahawk which also doubled as a peace-pipe.

"Gen. Diaz, I have the honor of adopting you as a full member of the tribe. I salute you."
*Armando Diaz (1861-1928) was born in Naples, Italy & graduated from the Military College of Turin (1884). AD was Chief of Staff during WWI & is considered one of the great generals of the war.
**Charles Henry Burke (1861-1944) was born in Batavia, NY & served in the U.S. House of Representatives (R-SD) & as Commissioner of the BIA, 1921-1929.
