"CHARGE D'AFFAIRS TO PRESENT CREDENTIALS IN MEXICO"

U.S. MAKES FINAL DECISION TO RECOGNIZE OBREGON GOVERNMENT

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 30, 1923, David Lawrence reports the government of the United States has reached a final decision "to extend recognition to the Obregon* government in Mexico."

A charge d'affairs of the American Embassy in Mexico City will present credentials at the same time a Mexican diplomatic representative will be received as the State Department here in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Lawrence writes that opening diplomatic relations with our neighbor to the South will open up diplomatic relations between the U.S. and some European and Asiatic powers.

*Alvaro Obregon (1880-1928) was born in Sonora, Mexico & served as Secretary of War & Navy 1916-1917 & President of Mexico 1920-1924.  AO was a member of the Laborist Party.
