"KLANSMEN SEEK REFUGE IN ODD FELLOWS HALL"

JERSEY MOB GETS BEST OF THE INVISIBLE EMPIRE

Perth Amboy, New Jersey (JFK+50) On August 31, 1923, Ku Klux Klansmen were attacked as they "tried to escape from Odd Fellow's Hall," here in Perth Amboy*, "where they had sought refuge during an attack on a Klan meeting last night."

The Associated Press reports more than one hundred people were injured in the attack last evening.  Most of the Klansmen gathering here for the meeting are from other towns and cities in New Jersey.

An assembly of local and state police along with 150 firemen are in Perth Amboy this morning to keep order.

*Perth Amboy is located in Middlesex County, New Jersey & is a part of the New York metro area.  Today Hispanics make up 78% of the town's population.  PA is called "The City by the Bay."
