"PRESIDENT HARDING GIVEN INTO GOD'S KEEPING"

THOUSANDS PASS BY CASKET OF LATE PRESIDENT HARDING IN CAPITOL ROTUNDA

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 8, 1923, "under the vast dome of the Capitol...(President) Warren (G.) Harding was given into God's keeping at noon...in a religious ceremony (lasting) twenty minutes."

Thousands of mourners then passed slowly by the flag-draped casket.

Wearing deep black and a heavy veil, Mrs. Florence Harding "faced her public ordeal of sorrow with stoic courage."

The Associated Press reports...

"Down the wide (Pennsylvania) Avenue. (President Harding) was carried today with marching legions tramping ahead.  Soldiers, sailors, marines and citizen soldiers were there, and behind them came the new President."
