"WILL NOT ATTEND PHI GAMMA DELTA CONVENTION"

COOLIDGE CANCELS ALL COMMITMENTS MADE AS VICE PRESIDENT

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (JFK+50) It was announced here in Pittsburgh on August 18, 1923 that President Calvin Coolidge "has cancelled all engagements made while he was Vice President."

The Evening Star reports that in a letter from the President to H.B. Wassell, general chairman of the Pittsburgh committee for the Phi Gamma Delta convention, Mr. Coolidge informed him that he would be unable to attend.

The President had been a member of Phi Gamma Delta* when he was at Amherst**.

*Phi Gamma Delta is a social fraternity of more than 144 active chapters & 10 colonies across the U.S. & Canada.  PGD was founded in 1848 in Canonsburg, PA & is now headquartered in Lexington, Ky.

**Amherst College, founded in 1821, is located in Amherst, Massachusetts.  It is the 3rd largest institution of higher learning in the commonwealth.
