"BUTTON, BUTTON, WHO'S GOT THE BUTTON?"

MR. BUTTON WANTS TO CHANGE HIS NAME TO MR. BURTON

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On October 27, 1923, The Evening Star reports one Mr. Frank Edwin Button has filed a petition in District Supreme Court "asking for permission to change his name to...Burton."

Mr. Button's reason given for the request is because of "the embarrassment" he has endured "in diverse ways" because of his surname.

The Star states, however, there is a rumor going around that, although not confirmed by his attorneys, the young woman Mr. Button is planning to marry "does not fancy the name of Button."

JFK+50 NOTE

The front page story in The Evening Star begins..."Button, button, who's got the button?"  This in reference to a "game of ingenuity" which is mentioned in Louisa May Alcott's 'Little Men,' 1871 and was also mentioned in a 1958 episode of TV's Perry Mason.
