"LUDENDORFF & HITLER TRAPPED INSIDE WAR MINISTRY"

BAVARIAN PUTSCH PUT DOWN BY FEDERAL TROOPS

Berlin, Germany (JFK+50) On November 9, 1923, The Evening Star reports "General Erich Ludendorff and Adolph Hitler, leaders of the Bavarian revolt, have been captured by Federal troops."  The "nationalist putsch*" occurred in Munich, capital of Bavaria.

Ludendoff and Hitler, who had declared themselves military dictator and chancellor of Germany, were trapped inside the war ministry building although the latter was spirited away to safety.  Hitler was taken into custody two days later and charged with treason.

*a.k.a. "Beer Hall Putsch" was a failed coup by the Nazi Party taking place in Munich, Germany on Nov 8 & 9, 1923 during the reign of the Weimar Republic.

JFK+50 NOTE

Hitler was sentenced to five years in prison but was released after just 9 months. Ludendorff, a German hero of World War I, was acquitted. 

During his time in prison, Adolph Hitler wrote Mein Kampf. After his release, he set upon taking power in Germany through legal means.
