"INVESTIGATION OF GERMANY'S FINANCIAL POSITION"

DAWES & YOUNG INVITED TO BE UNOFFICIAL U.S. REPRESENTATIVES ON REPARATION COMMITTEE

Paris, France (JFK+50) On December 15, 1923, "the reparation* committee...officially announced that it would extend invitations to General Charles G. Dawes** and Owen D. Young***...to be the unofficial representatives of the United States on the expert committees which are to investigate Germany's financial position."

Gen. Dawes is the former Director of the American budget and Mr. Young is a New York lawyer and banker.

*reparation is the making of amends for a wrong that has been done by paying money to those who have been wronged

**Charles Gates Dawes (1885-1951) was born in Marietta, Ohio & received his law degree at the University of Cincinnati School of Law.  CGD received the Nobel Prize for his work on a reparations plan at the end of WWI.  He was VPOTUS 1925-1929. 

***Owen D. Young (1874-1962) was born in Van Hornesville, New York & educated at the Boston University School of Law.  ODY founded General Electric & Radio Corporation of America.  He was chairman of the 2nd committee in Paris which drafted his plan for the settlement of reparations & established the Bank for International Settlements.
