COOLIDGES TAKE POTOMAC CRUISE DESPITE ICY WINDS
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On December 16, 1923, The Sunday Star reports President Calvin Coolidge and First Lady Grace Coolidge "made a cruise down the Potomac yesterday on the yacht Mayflower."
The cruise, which included a number of guests, lasted from mid-afternoon until 9 in the evening.
Guests included selected members of Congress (Republicans only) along with Secretary of War John W. Weeks.
The Mayflower sailed down to Quantico* before returning to port.
*Quantico, located in Prince William County, Virginia, is 35 miles SW of Washington, D.C. It is home to one of the largest USMC bases & the site today of HMX-1 presidential helicopter squadron as well as the FBI Academy & Laboratory.
