RUSSIAN ACTRESS GETS 3 YEARS IN PRISON FOR 'INSULT' TO WORKMEN
Kharkov*, Russia (JFK+50) On December 23, 1923, the Associated Press reports one "Mme Aksarina, an actress, has been condemned to three years' imprisonment at hard labor for 'insulting' a workmen's demonstration."
This took place at the celebration of the anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution when as the demonstrators were passing by, Mme Aksarina, standing on a balcony with her husband, was overheard saying....
"What a rabble! When will it be over?"
*Kharkov (Kharkiv) is the 2nd largest city in Ukraine founded in 1654 as a fortress. Today it is a major cultural, scientific, educational, transportation & industrial center.
