"FIANCE BROKE OFF ENGAGEMENT BECAUSE HE COULDN'T"

JUDGE GIVES FRENCHMAN ONE WEEK TO LEARN TO DANCE

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On January 15, 1924, The Evening Star reports one John Laclerq, a young Frenchman, "has been given one week by Judge McMahon of the United States branch of Police Court* to learn how to dance and win back his sweetheart's love."

It seems Mr. Laclerq's fiance, Marcelle Dubs, broke off their engagement because he could not dance.  Mr. Laclerq was in court on a charge of making threats against the girl.

The Judge said...

"You learn to dance.  Do not bother the girl.  Probably she will write you a nice little note and ask you to return to her."
