PRESIDENT DISCUSSES TAX CUT WITH WAYS & MEANS CHAIRMAN
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On January 21, 1924, President Calvin Coolidge had "a long conference" with Representative Raymond Green* (R-Iowa), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
The principal topic of the meeting, according to the Evening Star, was "the drafting of the tax reduction bill" which the committee will start work on this afternoon.
Mr. Green said that he wanted to get Mr. Coolidge's views "regarding the original plan of Secretary (Andrew) Mellon."

The Revenue Act of 1924 was passed in June & lowered tax rates for 1924 & provided a 25% credit on all 1923 incomes.
*William Raymond Green (1856-1947) was born in Colchester, Connecticut & served in the U.S. House of Representatives 1911-1928 & on the Court of Claims 1928-1947.
