"PARALYZED HIS RESPIRATORY SYSTEM"

LENIN DIES IN MOSCOW OF STROKE COMPLICATIONS

Moscow (JFK+50) On January 22, 1924, The Associated Press reports the death of Nicolai Lenin*, premier of the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics.

Death came at 5:50 p.m. Monday, January 21st and was due to complications of the stroke he suffered in June 1922.  The stroke "paralyzed his respiratory system."

JFK+50 NOTE

Lenin led the Russian (Bolshevik) Revolution of 1917 which would mark the end of centuries of imperial rule by the czars.  The Bolsheviks later became the Communists of Soviet Russia.

Before Russia became the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics in 1922, it was known as the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) but was often called Bolshevik Russia before becoming independent, then the Russian Soviet Republic.

*Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, a.k.a. Nicolai Lenin (1870-1924) was born in Ulyanovsk, Russia & educated at St. Petersburg Imperial University.  He served as Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of the Russian SF SR 1917-1921.
