AUTHENTIC TITIAN BOUGHT FOR $150 SELLS FOR $100,000
Los Angeles, California (JFK+50) On February 28, 1924, the Associated Press reports "an authentic Titian*...has been purchased by a Los Angeles art collector for $100,000."
The seller is Mr. Adolph Brugler of Santa Barbara who has owned the Titian for 33 years unaware of its value. He bought it in Florence, Italy for the equivalent of $150.
The Los Angeles Times, source of the AP report, says "experts have pronounced it genuine and identified it as a madonna**."
*Titian, Tiziano Vecellio was born in Pieve di Cadore, Italy & became the greatest painter of 16th century Venice (Italian Renaissance). TV died in 1576.
