"GERMANS CONSIDER FORMER PRESIDENT PRIVATE CITIZEN"

GERMAN EMBASSY WILL NOT FLY COLORS AT HALF-STAFF IN TRIBUTE TO WOODROW WILSON

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On February 5, 1924, The Evening Star reports "the German embassy* will not half-staff the German colors as a mark of respect to the late Woodrow Wilson."

The German Embassy issued a statement following inquiries about the matter from the Star's reporter which reads...

"The German government considers the late Mr. Woodrow Wilson a private citizen and therefore instructed the...embassy to refrain from official display of mourning."

*Diplomatic relations were established between the U.S. & Germany in 1871.  A new German Embassy was located at 1435 Mass Ave in Washington, D.C. in 1894.  Diplomatic relations between the two countries were discontinued between 1917 & 1921.
